Helsinki Railway Station

Helsinki's strikingly original Art Nouveau railway station was designed by Eliel Saarinen. It is especially notable for American tourists because its 48-meter-high clock tower was the first of several designs that finally resulted in Saarinen's 1922 Chicago Tribune Tower - America's first skyscraper.

Korkeasaari Zoo

As in any good zoo, the environments have been designed to be as close as possible to natural habitats. Nearly 1,000 plant species grow here to replicate the native environments of the 150 different animal species.

Forum Marinum Maritime Centre

In Turku’s IX district is this riverfront attraction that occupies two former government warehouses. All along the quay heritage boats of all sizes are moored and ready for you to board. Of these the standout has to be Sigyn, a three-masted merchant’s vessel built in Gothenburg in 1887.


Turku’s Sibeliusmuseum is Finland’s only museum completely centred on music. It’s in a 1960s functionalist building designed by Woldemar Baeckman, one of Finland’s leading architects.

Turku Archipelago has more than 40,000 islands. Several are interconnected by bridges, so hiring a bicycle is surely the best way to get around and really embrace the untouched natural beauty of the archipelago.

    Visitors can also spend a day at Torronsuo National Park, a natural swampland known for the diversity and prevalence of birdlife, or check out one of Hämeenlinna's museums, like the Museum of Finland or the Skogster Museum. Hämeenlinna also offers many beautiful historic houses to tour, like Palander House or the home where famous composer Jean Sibelius was born.

    Koli National Park

    There are many short and scenic trails perfect for a day trip as well as others like the Lake Herajärvi Trail, which is 18-40 miles long and takes several days of hiking to complete the route. Lake Pielinen offers a great option for those interested in canoeing or kayaking.
